One More Round Clothing Signs Professional Fighter Jake Shields To Represent The Brand in UFC 121.

Los Angeles, CA – One More Round, a southern California-based lifestyle clothing company active in the sport of mixed martial arts, baseball and other professional sports, has announced the signing of Bay Area native, and UFC Fighter, Jake Shields to their roster of athletes representing the brand.

One More Round celebrates an individual’s desire to achieve their very best performance in whatever discipline they choose. It is a particularly timely message of positivity, none so more reflected in San Francisco Giant’s closing pitcher Brain Wilson and his flashing of the brand’s trademark arms crossed, fists closed, one finger salute in tribute of his father. Wilson recently closed out the Atlanta Braves to advance to the NLCS with Philadelphia, which started Saturday October 16 with another Wilson save. The star pitcher has been a supporter of the brand since its inception.

Shields, who resides in San Francisco just across the street from Giants ballpark, is the latest in a long line of professional fighters the company has endorsed and sponsored. “Signing Jake to wear our clothing as he walks in for his next fight (Anaheim October 23rd) was an easy decision,” says One More Round’s marketing chief Jim Baltutis. “Jake represents the exact person who not only inspires our brand, but who wears it day in and night out. And “the fight” is what inspires the One More Round walk-out tee that Shields will wear as he walks into battle in Anaheim California on October 23. It is a shallow v-neck, spray-washed and printed with the brand’s iconic name splayed across the chest. The corner men will wear a companion crew-neck tee with a specific visual shout-out to the Flying Tigers, who were hired to defend China during the early years of WWII. That tee has some deeper meaning to Shields as well, as his maternal grandfather was a member of the Army Air Corp, which became the US Air Force, and his mom’s uncle was a member elite Flying Tigers division. It was a revelation uncovered as One More Round presented the idea for the tee’s to Shield’s management. Says Jake, “It’s a cool way to honor my mothers Dad, and her uncle and their legacy. Uncle Harry came back from China when the US was attacked, and he and my grandfather both joined the Army Air Corp, before there was an Air Force, so I will be proud to wear the inspirational shirt and take the fight ‘One More Round’.”

The size of your gloves will depend on what sort of training you are working on. Since striking for mma has so many different facets, you may need multiple sizes and styles during your training regimen.

There are three specific styles of gloves within mixed martial arts, and many sub-styles within those that I will explain further in another article. The three main styles are Bag gloves, Training gloves, and Fight gloves. Bag gloves are typically used for hitting the heavy bag or speed bag, training gloves are used when training at the gym with your sparring partners, and fight gloves are used during an amateur or professional mma fight. Gloves should fit snug. When wearing gloves, they should always be fastened tight to avoid wrist injuries. If there is extra room inside your gloves, you may want to try and supplement them with hand wraps.

Whether you’re just getting started in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts or you’ve been around awhile, purchasing new MMA Gear can seem like an overwhelming task. Having trained for many years, I’m going to start off with the two most important pieces of MMA Gear known to man. By this I am talking about getting yourself a Mouth guard and Groin Cup. If you train at a real fight gym you’ll find that it won’t be long before you (accidentally or not) take a knee to the face on the ground and/or a miss-aimed low kick to the groin… which is why I cannot stress enough how important both a quality mouthpiece and cup are. They will save you from unnecessary pain and dentist bills.

Next I’d like to talk about shorts. A decade ago finding a quality pair of MMA Shorts was much more difficult than it is today. In fact, slim pickings would be an understatement if I ever heard one. All there was to choose from was Bad Boy, Tapout, and a few other small brands of questionable quality. In recent years however as the sport has gained in popularity so has the amount of options for those of us who train. Now, there are literally dozens of high quality brands when it comes to fight shorts. I suggest you take a browse through the MMA Shorts section on MMA Overload and see what is available in your size. As long as you’re surfing a popular online store such as theirs, you’ll be sure to find only quality brands.

After finding a pair of shorts you like, you’ll want to move on to gloves. Speak with your trainer to find out what weight and glove type they recommend (Boxing, Grappling, Muay Thai, etc) for the style of training that you’ll be participating in. Brand-wise for Sparring and Fight Gloves I always recommend either Fairtex or Hayabusa. Spending a little extra will go long way when it comes to gloves. Think about the quality of leather and stitching required. A good pair of gloves can last you for years while a sub-par pair may start to rip and fall apart much sooner.

After you’ve been training for awhile and have moved on to a tougher training regimen a.k.a. sparring and live go’s – you’ll need to start thinking about other equipment such as shin guards, head gear, and possibly your own thai pads as well. This comes with time and I will cover it in another article.

Finally, you’re going to need some sort of Gear Bag to carry your brand new (or gently used) MMA training and fight gear in. Don’t fret… More and more MMA brands are making bags and backpacks these days, but you certainly don’t have to go with a Mixed Martial Arts brand. There are plenty of huge brands like Adidas or Nike that make great martial arts gear bags.

When you’re purchasing your new gear, be sure to pick up a shirt of your favorite fighter’s as well. Many fans and practitioners do not realize this but often times fighters get a cut of the revenue made from their t-shirt sales – so be sure to support your favorites.
